Lecture series:Mythscapes: Re-telling and Decoding Myths From Around the World

Mythscapes is a series of myth-telling and discussion sessions that will re-tell significant myths from around the world and decode the stories for patterns and insights by analyzing the comparative elements in myths from different civilizations
Through the Mythscapes lecture and discussion sessions, we will bring to you the narratives of some of the most powerful and significant myths from around the world. We will also try and decode these stories and identify insights, themes and patterns by comparing some of these.

We hope these sessions will be a reminder of Mankind’s shared journey through Time as also reveal to us how these primal tales continue to have an imprint in today’s culture and collective experiences.

Course Details
Wednesdays, 6.30-8.30pm, 4 Modules of 3 sessions each, £60 per module.

Module 1: March 15, 22, 29, 2017
Creation Myths & The Common Imagery and Narrative Devices used
3 sessions covering the narratives of Creation Myths from the Vedic, Egyptian, Greek, Far Eastern and Americas as well as identifying the common themes that run through them. 
Module 2: April 12, 19, 26, 2017
Nature Myths Including Flood Myths
3 sessions covering the narratives of Flood Myths from the Vedic, Sumerian and Biblical sources as well as other Nature Myths that illustrate how Primal Man interpreted and interacted with various natural manifestations like mountains, rivers et al.
Module 3: May 17, 24, 31, 2017
Myths of Mother Goddess
3 sessions focusing on three significant primordial Goddesses of Egypt, India and South America - Isis, Durga and the Inca Earth Mother, Pachamama. We will explore how Mother Goddess embodies earth, fertility and primal energy that powered the cycle of birth/rebirth itself.

Module 4: June 14, 21, 28, 2017
Hero Myths
3 sessions covering the archetype Hero’s journey, the detailed understanding of the Sumerian Hero figure of Gilgamesh as well as Indra and Rama from the Vedic/Puranic tradition. We will end this module by looking at the enduring and significant impact of the Hero myth on all aspects of popular culture and media.

The Mythscapes Team
Anuradha Dhar Bose
Anuradha is an accountant by profession but a mythologist by passion.  A chartered accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, she has a diploma in comparative mythology from Bombay University and studied under the tutelage of renowned artist and mythologist Dr. Vidya Kamat.
Anuradha started her career in the UK with Lloyds Bank. Today, in addition to her day job as an accountant and fundraiser with a NGO, she is pursuing her passion for myths by contributing articles to websites and papers.
Anuradha believes that myths are an integral part of our present as these stories of primal humans are imprinted in both our collective and individual psyches.
Rukmini Gupte
Rukmini is a London based Brand Strategist who works with companies and brands across markets in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.
Her job involves helping brands create greater consumer delight by making sense of macro trends and by delving deeper into consumer motivations and prejudices. She is fascinated by myths not just because she loves a good story but because myths help her to understand where she comes from and help reaffirm that we humans are all part of the same journey through time and space.
A Post Graduate in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, Rukmini has also studied Comparative Mythology and obtained a diploma from the University of Mumbai in 2008-2009.
