Notes: Conference Overview

Following from the success of the Business of Art International Art conference in October 2010, this year's conference brings to the forefront Independent Enterprises in the promotion of art, be it private museums in the public realm or artist residencies. Besides the art market, an effort to create a knowledge base around art practice has seen the beginnings of many such enterprises in India. These practices are patronized largely by the private sector in India due to lack of Government funding. In the UK, specialist art institutes promote art in the public realm, at par with Western art and in the context of International art practice.

The conference will provide a platform for dialogue and exchange, by the representatives from these Institutes; to bring forth a textured and dimensional understanding of contemporary art practices as they emerge and develop in an increasingly globalised art scene.

This is an opportunity for students, artists, art practitioners, patrons, educators and anyone with a curiosity about contemporary art practice in India and beyond to widen their horizons and meet professionals first hand, in the setting of the Bhavan Centre.

Invited Presenters
The Conference will be chaired by an arts practitioner who will facilitate a discussion around emergent ideas presented, and open up the platform for questions with the audience.
