6:00pm UDDHAVA GITA Baladevi Chandrasekhar Concept, Choreography by Bala Devi Chandrashekar. This is a teaching given by Lord Krishna to his disciple Uddhava. This forms a part of Srimad Bhagavata Purana. In the Uddhava Gita, Lord Krishna imparts self-knowledge and the sadhanas needed for attaining this knowledge. Bala's career has been atypical, falling into two phases, one as a lecturer and researcher and a performer. Bala is a senior disciple of the renowned dancer Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam. As an artist, she went on to perform as a soloist and has developed her own dance technique, and currently she works on number of projects on Performing Arts, raising the awareness of Bharatanatyam and the relationship to other performing arts. 7:00pm Kavita K2K (Kalidaas to Kaifi Azmi) Kavita K2K or Kalidaas to Kaifi Azmi is a unique show based on Ancient poetry in the first half, and Modern poetry in the second half. The poems will be set to (many original) music compositions. Majority of the songs are accompanied by dance (mixture of Kathak, Odissi, Bharat natyam and contemporary styles) and the context will be presented in the form of a drama in English by four Actors. The first half has pieces from Kalidaas, Jaydev, Kabirdas, Zafar whereas the second half has more contemporary pieces including those written by Gulzaar, Haribanshrai Bachchan and Kaifi Azmi. The show is presented by a group of very talented vocalists, dancers, and musicians who have previously staged many highly acclaimed shows including those at the Bhavan (Guldastaa and Kahata Kabir). This programme will be of interest to all music lovers as it includes more traditional, classical music pieces as well as more easy listening, contemporary and even a couple of immortal Hindi film songs.
