Pt. Ravi Shankar trained over 100 students including Punita Gupta, who became his student in 1973 with a traditional Ganda ceremony at the Hindu Centre in North London. She is an accomplished sitar player and teacher, who will be accompanied for this performance by The Bhavan resident teachers Balu Raguraman on violin, M Balachandar on mridangam, and a former student and freelance tabla player Udit Pankhania.

The Bhavan presents the 2nd Pandit Ravi Shankar Memorial Music Festival . Pandit Ravi Shankar, KBE was one of the best-known proponents of the sitar in the 20th century and influenced many musicians throughout the world. This concert is a part of a two-day celebration honouring his memory with music.
