2nd Half – Rabindranath Tagore’s Chandalika
Chandalika by Rabindranath Tagore is a poignant dance-drama that explores caste, identity, and spiritual awakening. It tells the story of Prakriti, a girl from an untouchable caste, who experiences a profound inner change when a Buddhist monk, Ananda, asks her for water—treating her as a human, not an outcast. This act stirs feelings of love and self-worth in Prakriti, leading her to challenge societal norms. Torn between desire and guilt, she ultimately chooses spiritual growth over possession, embracing the freedom of the soul.
