We are looking for an experienced arts marketing professional who will lead
The Bhavan’s marketing and communications activities including audience
development, media and PR, publications and social media networking, and
who will develop with other key staff members The Bhavan’s brand position,
implementing a strong visual identity and advocating our external profile and
reputation.
The Bhavan is the largest centre of classical Indian arts in the UK. It aims to
preserve and encourage the teaching and understanding of Indian art and
culture as an integral part of the culture of the UK. The Bhavan is a National
Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England. The Bhavan and expert teachers
and visiting performing artists are dedicated to sharing classical Indian arts
and culture - dance, music, languages, yoga, art, art history - in an authentic
way. They delight audiences at our centre in West Kensington and inspire our
students to value their communities and commit to their own development be
it personal, artistic or spiritual.

JOB DESCRIPTION –
MARKETING AND AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
Overall Purpose of the Post
To play a key role in communicating with our audiences, raise the profile of The Bhavan and increase
the take-up of its activities through digital media and established marketing techniques.
Summary of the Role/ Person Specification
The post-holder will be updating, maintaining and developing the institute’s communications
channels, including website, social-media, print, newsletters, photography and video. They will be a
confident self-starter with a demonstrable interest in and experience of using a range of digital and
traditional media.
Terms
Salary Up to £25,000 depending on skills, knowledge and experience Hours
35 hours per week with significant weekend and evening working
Location West Kensington
Holidays 28 days per annum including bank holidays

Business Manager, Executive Director, Curator and all other administrative,
artistic and academic staff

Main Duties
- Work with internal teams and students to create, review and edit new and existing content
for the school website and social media, including events listings, information pages,
application forms, portals and news stories.
- Create and edit rich media (photography, video, live-stream) of school activities and
events, educational videos, video interviews with students, staff and VIP guests, video
resources for events etc.
- Maintain and monitor the school’s social media channels.
- Create, edit and distribute regular staff and school e-newsletters.
- Design adverts, newsletters, posters, programmes and leaflets.
- Assist with the production of other general publications as required.
- Assist with audience surveys.
- Catalogue and maintain the school’s digital photo library.
- Take, produce and distribute minutes for the Marketing Sub-Committee
- Stay informed of upcoming trends and developments within the field of social media.
- Any other duties which may reasonably fall within the scope and range of the job.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Experience of maintaining social media channels as part of an integrated marketing
approach, ideally within a performing arts organisation.
- Experience using website content management systems.
- Good working knowledge of third party newsletter services for creating and sending
newsletters
- Good working knowledge of video/sound recording and editing (eg Final Cut Pro) as well as
good SLR digital photography skills.
- Good working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office programmes.
- Excellent written communication skills: able to inspire and enthuse others and to vary the
tone and use of language for different audiences and purposes.
- Experience with SEO, AdWords Campaigns, Google Analytics.
- Accuracy and an eye for detail.
- Good organisational skills with an ability to multi-task, lead on certain areas and meet
deadlines.
- Able to think creatively, research current trends in the arts and input own ideas.
- A team player.
- An open approach with good interpersonal skills.
- Committed to developing own marketing and communication skills.
- Willing and enthusiastic, happy to ‘muck in’ where needed.
- Reliable and well organised.
Desirable Criteria
- An interest in Indian Arts and culture
- Good working knowledge of publishing software
- Understanding of GDPR, privacy, child safe-guarding etc.
- Experience working with young people.
